5 Ways to Keep a Healthy Immune System

How do we keep our immune system healthy? Keeping a healthy immune system involves a few simple steps. Below are 5 ways to keep a healthy immune system.:
  1. Eat right
  2. Eliminate stress
  3. Unplug from electronics
  4. Enjoy the outdoors.
  5. Take good vitamins.
1. Eat Right

In today's world, we are faced with fewer options when it comes to nutritional food than just a few decades ago, because most of today's crops are being grown in nutrient depleted soils.

In addition to depleted soil, a lot of fruits and vegetables that are readily available to consumers are also now genetically modified and loaded with pesticides.

Even though it's close, purchasing organic produce and juicing with good recipes on a raw food diet won't give you give the same nutritional benefits as freshly harvested.

Most consumers don't realize how many days ago that vegetables were (1) harvested, (2) sitting in a warehouse (3) in transit to their store, and (4) sitting on the supermarket shelf before they buy them.

During that time, the nutrients in vegetables and fruits are depleting. Most produce loses 30% of their nutrients three days after harvest.

So how can you make sure you get the best nutritional benefits from your fruits and vegetables? One way is take good vitamins.

2. Eliminate Stress

A good way to help eliminate stress is to figure out what the negative energy is that's burning you out, and eliminate that energy, or at least reduce it.

Prioritize your life by making a To-Do List. Sounds old fashioned, I know, but it really does work. Just write down your goals for the day, month, year, or your life. Number the items in the list that are most important, and focus your energy on number one. Even if you don't get your whole list finished, you'll get goals that are the most important to you completed.

Find a new hobby that will give renewed inspiration to your life. Get a gym membership, learn a new language, learn "how to" skills that will widen interests.

Make new friends. Volunteer. Help out a neighbor. Do something that makes you feel a positive influence in your life.

The idea is: give yourself a new, stimulating challenge to redirect and renew your focus.

3. Unplug from Electronics

It's important to delegate a little down time in our day, away from computers, cell phones and TV's.

More and more, scientists are learning the health hazards electronics can have upon our health. Things like eye strain, neck and shoulder pain, back pain, skeletal issues, and disruptive sleep disorders can all be traced back to the effects of digital electronics in our world.

Electronics are great and we can't live without them; but sometimes, it is good just to unplug for a little bit.

4, Enjoy the Outdoors

Make it a point to get outside in the sunshine. The outdoors can improve our cognitive function, enhance our moods and sleep patterns, boost energy and give us a change of pace from being inside.

Did you know that between 10-30 minutes of exposure to the sun outdoors will help your body manufacture vitamin D?

Whether it's taking a short walk, riding a bike with a friend, planting a garden, taking the family to a picnic at a park, mow the yard, take a vacation to the beach, sit outside and sip on your favorite beverage. Go camping for the weekend. Not only do you get the health benefits, you make great memories, too.

5. Take Good Vitamins

There is a lot to be said about what constitutes "good" vitamins. Some companies add fillers to make their vitamins. Some companies buy "low grade" cheap ingredients full of pesticides that are not good for us; all in the name of making bigger profits.

Is the company you get your vitamins from manufacturing them to be sitting on the shelf for a long time? Are they tested for heavy metals and pesticides? Are the ingredients they source certified by a lab to be pure?

Sadly, a lot of people trust the places they purchase their vitamins from to be providing the good quality no matter where they shop. Not so. Do your homework and don't spend money on inferior supplements.

So remember, to keep a healthy immune system, all you need to remember is to do a little self care.

Eat right - eliminate stress - unplug from electronics - enjoy the outdoors and take good vitamins.
